Construction History

In December of 1986, the Board of Trustees at that time made the decision to build a temple in Rochester. Activity to look for an appropriate site was soon started. The search ended in the Fall of 1989 when an offer was made to buy the 9.5 acre parcel at the current site. The closing to purchase the property was in February 1990. A site plan was prepared to get the permission from the Town of Henrietta for construction of the Temple. The approval was given on October 22, 1990.

The first ceremony at the Temple site was on July 10, 1991 when Pujya Sant Morari Bapu came to perform the Bhoomi-Pooja . In the mean time a building committee was formed to prepare building plans for the Temple with the help of our architect (Shashi Patel and Associates). The ground was broken for construction by Pujya Ramesh Bhai Oza and Swami Chidanand Saraswati (Muni ji) on May 9, 1992. This occasion was marked by the performance of Sri Satya Narayan Pooja. Besides a large attendance from the community, seventy five families participated in this Saamoohik Pooja .

The contract for construction was awarded in January of 1993 and the construction started in the Spring of 1993. With the effort of a lot of volunteers and community members, the first phase of the construction was completed and the certificate of occupancy for the lower level was given on April 1, 1994.

The front view of the Temple

The Temple recently paid off the bank loan for the cost of the Phase I contruction. This means our building is lien free! The proposed final view of the Temple is shown below. With continued community support, we will eventually make this vision a reality.
